January 31, 1921- April 27, 2021

Refugio Guerra, Jr., 100, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.

Refugio Guerra, Jr was born on January 31, 1921 in Laredo, Texas to Refugio & Maria Antonia Decker Guerra. Refugio went to school in Laredo, Texas and graduated from Martin High School in 1942. Refugio met and married the love of his life, Martha Barrientos Guerra who together shared 66 loving years.  God blessed them with two sons, the late Luis M. Guerra and surviving son Samuel J. Guerra. He entered into the service of the United States Army on October 2, 1942 until December 1, 1945.  Refugio was one of the soldiers who loaded up the Atomic bomb on to the Enola Gay B-29 bomber at approximately 2:45 a.m. from the Tinian Island. which was dropped on August 6, 1945 on Hiroshima, Japan as part of the United States response to the attacks on Pearl Harbor during World War II.  We all knew him as Little Boy. Refugio was the lone survivor of eight siblings: two sisters and six brothers who also served their country proudly. Upon his return from World War II and upon his Honorable Discharge, he worked for the United States Postal Service for 42 years until his retirement on November 30, 1986.  His legacy will be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
