MELIDA E. JIMENEZ

SEPTEMBER 21, 1925 - AUGUST 16, 2021

Our dearest mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Melida E. Jimenez, entered into eternal rest on August 16, 2021. A native from Laredo, Texas, she was born on September 21, 1925. She graduated from Martin High School in 1943, and she worked as an executive secretary at a local import/export business until her marriage to the love of her life, Manuel R. Jimenez, on January 31, 1953.

As a long-time parishioner of San Agustin Cathedral, Mrs. Jimenez volunteered in many church organizations and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Mary Magdalene #1989. Growing up, she was a parishioner of San Jose Catholic Church and a member of the Hijas de Maria and church choir. A strong proponent of Catholic education, Mrs. Jimenez sacrificed with her husband to have all her children attend Catholic schools in Laredo. She was very involved in school activities at Mary Help of Christians School and St. Augustine High School.

Mrs. Jimenez was a devoted mother who dedicated her life to raising her seven children and served as a role model on how to treat others with kindness and respect. Her unconditional love was evident in her daily acts of charity, whether it was offering prayers, making meals for those in need, or giving her time to listen and guide others.

Besides saying her daily prayers and rosary, Mrs. Jimenez enjoyed listening to and singing to all types of music, watching game shows, cooking delicious meals for her family, and visiting with her children and relatives. Visitors could always find Mrs. Jimenez in her kitchen preparing for the next meal, paying bills, enjoying a cup of coffee, or telephoning a friend or relative. Her faith grounded her decisions and gave her the strength to confront challenges and always find the silver lining to situations and remain positive.

Through all her interactions, Mrs. Jimenez never met a stranger, and she will be remembered for her keen sense of memory. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel R. Jimenez; her parents, Jose and Maria Espinoza; her in-laws, Pedro and Maria Jimenez; Emeterio and Eliodora Jimenez; Roberto Jimenez; Irma L. Palacios; and Alfonso Lopez.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Maria Guadalupe (Lupita), Juan Manuel (Jean), Pedro (Paula), Jose Antonio (Laura), Ana Maria, Francisco Javier (Kay), and Lourdes (Christopher Medina). She is survived by her loving grandchildren Austin, Dyllan, Lauren, Adam, Jacob, and James Jimenez; R. J. Nalder, William (Kristen) Kelley, and Melida Medina; and great-granddaughter, Eleanor Kelley. She is also survived by her sister, Josefina (+Alfonso) Lopez, as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives.

The family will be receiving condolences on Friday, August 27, 2021 from 5 pm to 9 pm at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 6:00 p.m.
