Mrs. Gloria G. Carrillo

December 29, 2019

Mrs. Gloria G. Carrillo entered eternal rest on Sunday, December 29, 2019 She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. She has now rejoined her cherished husband and our beloved father Isidro (Chilo) M. Carrillo, Sr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Basiliza and Bill Cozad; her sisters, Eloisa (Sergio) Laurel, and Librada Lamar Pedersen.

Mrs. Carrillo led a simple life but behind that simplicity lied a wall of fortitude, conviction and love. Deeply committed to her husband and children, she devoted her entire life in caring and protecting her family.  Those loving survivors include Isidro M. Carrillo, Jr., Daniel J. (Diana) Carrillo, Sr., Gerardo (Luz Elena) Carrillo, Patricia (Artis) Barnes; grandchildren, Marla (Carlos) Carrillo Alaniz, Danny J. (Stephanie) Carrillo, Jr., Isabella Leni Carrillo; 5 great-grandchildren, Amelie, Daniel Stephen, Alyna, Isabella, Arely, and numerous nieces and nephews;  grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Carrillo was a humble woman and a noble Catholic who prayed daily for others.  She was well known in her parish of St. Peter the Apostle Church, where she was a lifelong member.  She was known to keep a prayer journal for all the people and causes she was praying for.  Mrs. Carrillo was also a member of the Catholic Daughter’s Court of Mary Magdalene.

She was born in Laredo, Tx, the youngest of three daughters.  She graduated from Laredo High School and went on to attend Laredo Jr. College.  In 1950 she married the love of her life, Isidro (Chilo) Carrillo.  Together they formed a family based on dignity and the virtues of generosity.  Education and religion were highly valued in the family home and all their children attended Catholic school at one point or throughout all their education. This continues, as her great grandchildren attend Mary Help of Christians and St. Augustine Elementary Schools.

Mrs. Carrillo loved more than anything being a grandmother and a great grandmother.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her so much joy and Abuelita made family gatherings delicious, festive and memorable.

One thing Mrs. Carrillo will always be remembered for is her annual Christmas cookies. If you ever received a tin from her, you were blessed to have received the best tasting homemade cookies. Her cookies recipe book will be ceremoniously handed down to her favorite grandson. She also loved playing Loteria.  If you ever had some extra change and time, you were in for quite an afternoon of fun and laughter.
