Francisco J. Flores

December 19, 1934-March 14, 2021

Mr. Francisco J. Flores, 86, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Sunday, March 14, 2021.

Francisco J. Flores, also known as Paco, was the son of Francisco and Aurora T. Flores.  He was born in Eagle Pass, Texas and was raised in Laredo, Texas.  Francisco graduated from St. Augustine High School with Honors.  He thrived in educational settings and was one of the first Latinos to graduate from St. Edward’s University, where he majored in Business Administration and Finance.

Francisco served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany where he served as a medic for 2 years.  Upon his return from his service in the military, he worked as the property manager officer for the Laredo Air Force Base through its final closing day.

Francisco worked as the manager of the Laredo Teacher’s Federal Credit Union for many years where he played an integral role in establishing its success. He thrived on opportunities that positively impacted the community and embraced this goal working at the TX Workforce Commission.  He deeply enjoyed teaching people about community resources and the skills to gain employment.

Paco was happiest and most content helping others.  Throughout his professional career and adult life, he consistently devoted time to volunteer and serve in several organizations.  He was the treasurer for the Red Cross, a volunteer for Lifeline Mental Health, and a member of both the Elks Lodge and Knights of Columbus organizations.

In retirement, he remained actively devoted to serving his community.  He became a volunteer at Laredo Medical Center for 10 years in various capacities.  He supported the LMC Information Center and was the secretary for LMC’s Volunteer Committee Board.  Throughout his service at LMC, he participated in many local events that promoted the health and well-being of Laredo’s citizens.

Above all else, Francisco was a devout Catholic with deep faith.  He maintained a close relationship with the church all his life.  In his youth, he enjoyed being an altar boy and later participated in the choir.  As music became his way of expressing his deepest sentiments, he volunteered as an organist at the St. Augustine Cathedral.

Francisco was a deeply loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  He excelled in writing and playing the piano.  He enjoyed reading, dancing, spending time with his family and caring for pets. Loving his family and being of service to others brought him a life of fulfillment and deep joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Aurora T. Flores.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Melva N. Flores; children, Rosalinda (William) Nericcio, Sandra (Richard) Flores-Gonzales; grandchildren, Lorenzo and Sophia Nericcio; sister-in-law Celinda Treviño Pepi; brother-in-law Armando (Nellie) Treviño Pepi, M.D.; along with other numerous relatives and friends.
