DR. AUGUSTO PATRICIO GUECO RAMOS, JR.

MARCH 13, 1954 – MARCH 30, 2021

Dr. Augusto Patricio Gueco Ramos, Jr., 67, entered into God’s heavenly garden on March 30, 2021, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family at his side.

Dr. Augusto Patricio Gueco Ramos, Jr., was born in Manila, Philippines on March 13, 1954. He grew up in Manila and attended the Ateneo de Manila University from grade school through college. As he desired to continue his father’s legacy as a Surgical Pathologist, he went to medical school at the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, graduating in 1979. He also was a member and an officer of Tau Mu Sigma Phi, the Thomasian Medical School Fraternity. Thereafter, he migrated to the United States and pursued his residency training in Anatomic Pathology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Continuing his training, he completed his residency in Clinical Pathology at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan. Afterward, he pursued his fellowship training in Surgical Pathology at Washington University Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He subsequently joined the United States Army and served the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C., where he worked with internationally renowned pathologists and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his achievements in the field of Pathology. After 10 years in the Army, he resigned his commission as Lieutenant Colonel and moved to Laredo, Texas in 1998. There, he joined Mercy Hospital, now Laredo Medical Center, as Medical Director of the Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Laboratory. As a member of the Laredo Gateway Rotary Club, he received recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. He was fervently dedicated to his medical profession and served the Laredo community with compassion for nearly 25 years until his passing. Ultimately, he devoted his life and love to his family and God, cherishing any and all the time he had with them. He enjoyed weekly bible studies with his fellow physician colleagues and church community, and joyfully shared the gospel at any chance he could to anyone he encountered. He shared a steadfast life with his wife and successfully raised two children in medicine, all of whom he loved dearly. Augusto was a one-of-a-kind husband, father, son, brother, uncle, colleague, friend, and physician. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Dr. Augusto Julian Ramos, Sr., and Adoracion Gueco Ramos.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved and faithful wife of 35 years, Gracita Gerona Ramos; children Dr. Christine Louise Ramos Camacho (Dr. Rene Ricardo Camacho) and Auguste Julian Ramos; siblings Victor Ramos (Nenita), Louis Ramos (Excella), Virginia Ramos Arias (Manolito), Cecilia Ramos de Jesus (Jose Maria), Dr. Asuncion Ramos-Soriano (Dr. Ramon Soriano), and Evelyn Ramos Cura (Erwin); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, beloved relatives, and the many friends he made along the way.
