Benito Chapa

March 21, 1931 — November 10, 2020

Benito Chapa, 89, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Tuesday, November 10, 2020.

¡Dios es mi salvación!  Confiaré en él y no temeré,  El Señor es mi fuerza, el Señor es mi canción; ¡Él es mi salvación!  Isaias 12:2

Biography:  Our father, Bene, as our mother would call him, was kind and a gentle man.  He worked hard to provide for his family.  His hard work allowed him to buy a piece of land he called “el ranchito”, where, as a family, we spent many weekends and Easters together.  He was a carpenter by vocation, and he dedicated 20 + years working for LISD, Division of Operations.  He loved gardening and enjoyed starting avocado trees from seed.  He also loved taking care of all the animals he had at his ranchito-mostly his chickens (which provided all the eggs for our family).  He had a passion for harvesting nopalitos and enjoyed cleaning them during cuaresma. He also spent many hours playing dominoes and sharpening gardening tools and knives with his honing stone.  Our father loved his western shows, especially Gun Smoke and John Wayne Movies.  He loved his hats and loved to put his black hat on those who would visit him.

He was preceded in death by: the mother of his children, Maria Felipa Chapa, his father, Jose Guilibaldo Chapa and his mother, Maria Vega Chapa.  His infant brother Federico, Federico Chapa (Antonia), Andrea Gómez (Luciano), Vicenta Casarez (Isabel); Trinidad (Espiridion); Eusebia (Juan) Rodriguez and Nicolasa Chavarría (Alberto).

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Hiliana Chapa, his children, Yolanda C. Timms (John), Leticia Sanchez (Ramiro Lopez), Dora A. Garcia (Lalo), Jose G. Chapa (Sandra) and his only surviving brother, Jesus Chapa (Maria de Lurdes, deceased); His step children, Jerry Lerma (Diana), Sergio Lerma (Gloria), and Nora Lerma and his beloved grandchildren Belinda (Alfredo) Morgan, Daisy Galvan, Daniel (Filogonia) Sanchez.
