BALDOMERO GERARDO GARCIA JR.

Baldomero Gerardo Garcia, Jr. was welcomed into Heaven on May 7, 2020. (Lord help them!) Wonder how he got past the bouncer at the gate? He is probably watching us from above now, chillaxing, finally allowed to smoke and drink a Blue Sapphire gin martini. Or, he may be stalking Prince for concert tickets. Who knows?! Baldo loved stories, but preferred to tell them rather than hear them. He was armed with a quick wit, a spare no details attitude (seriously, he spared no details), breath to talk until the cows came home (they most often took the scenic route), but always left you with a belly laugh. (Don’t get me started on the nicknames-yup, you guessed it, we all had one!) He wholeheartedly believed his fashion sense was Haute Couture, but in his typical no-nonsense attitude, it was still his stock pile from the 1970s. Were he writing this today, he’d say, in the immortal words of Curly, “I’m a victim of circumstance…!” and his other favorite quote from Sanford and Son, “Oh this is it, this is the big one, Elizabeth, you hear that, I’m coming home honey!”

In all seriousness, his passing leaves an indelible void in our hearts.  He was a devout catholic who served the church at San Martin de Porres, was well educate and well versed, an exemplary employee, connoisseur d’ food, loved to pronounce words linguistically, but most of all, the title he was most proud of was, “son”. He was devoted to his mother to the very end. He went through extreme lengths for her care, even cheating death in 2018 to return to her side. He loved her so very much, and her passing was something he never fully accepted. Earlier, on the day he was taken to the hospital, he talked about how much he missed her. Rest now dear friend, you are home.

Hearing him speak and tell his stories was a sincere pleasure. He was an incredible person, the piped-piper, an amazing human being, and overall, was real and honest -one of the truly good guys. If you were fortunate to have him in your life, you knew he was a gift.

Baldomero loved the color purple, but he bled maroon. A career employee of over 25 years, he was a Program Manager with the Texas Center for Border Economic and Enterprise Development at Texas A&M International University. It was not just a job for him –there he found family.

In life, he enjoyed photography and tinkering with Photoshop. Baldo loved his new Samsung phone-he called it his little pleasure in life. He was avid at many things’ technology.  Loved “the Big Easy”, and hoped he would travel there again soon. The Dallas Cowboys were his team. TV shows were his past-time -don’t get him started on Family Guy! And can’t forget Volkswagen.

Baldomero is preceded in Death by his father Baldomero G. Garcia, Sr., his mother Maria Delia Garcia, and his beloved sister, Sara Alicia Garcia.  He is reunited with the Lord, and embracing his family.

In celebration of his life, visitors wishing to pay their last respects are asked to wear purple, or a purple ribbon.

Left to cherish his memory is his extended family, and beloved friends.

Mrs. Maria Torres, Mrs. Rosa Irene Reyes Hernandez, and Mrs. Nidia Gutierrez Garcia. He said you made him feel as he did when his mother would take care of him. With you he enjoyed your wonderful cooking, comfort, and the warmth of hearth and home. You helped him reminisce about his childhood, his family life, trips to Bustamante with his family, and his younger days in general. The fact that you cared so deeply for him and his mother is something he cherished. Thank you for spoiling him.

Deep gratitude is extended to: The Emergency Room staff at the Laredo Medical Center, and the University Hospital. The ER physicians, neurologists, and neurosurgeons, and especially the nurses for all the amazing care, compassion, and understanding.  And thank you for allowing that I be there to hold his hand.

Thank you, Leo and Amy, you are wonderful friends to him. A note of appreciation to Dr. Steve Sears, staff and faculty of the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business.
