William M. Luft (Bill Luft), one of the Southwest’s most influential architectural designers died on Saturday January 22, 2022 at his home in Laredo, Texas, surrounded by family and close friends. He was 80 years old.
Bill’s home was Laredo, Texas and he would not have had it any other way. He loved Laredo and Laredo loved him back. Bill traveled and worked extensively throughout Mexico and the United States.
Bill had many friends from all walks of life. His vitality and good cheer were enjoyed by everyone. Although his enormous talent stands out, he will be warmly remembered for his gracious and fun-loving personality.
Those fortunate enough to have had their homes, restaurants, hotels, ranches, yachts and planes made special by his touch, will have lasting reminders of what Bill could do to any space. Bill was truly a visionary and will be immortalized in all that he leaves behind. Bill will be missed but never forgotten.
Bill is survived by his sister Beverly Hulett, nephews and nieces John Griessen and Judi Ronkartz, Steven and Wendy Griessen Eric Hulett, Adrian and Dean Pilcher. And eight great nephews & nieces. He is preceded in death by his mother Louise Luft and siblings Barbara Luft Griessen and Jack Luft.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
