Emblem

United States Navy Veteran Vidal O. Valdez, ascended into his eternal rest on Saturday, April 18, 2026 surrounded by loved ones in Laredo, Texas. He was 89 years young. Mr. Valdez is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe Ortegon and Josefina Ortegon Valdez; partner Beatriz, and brothers Ricardo, Roberto, and Enrique Valdez.

Vidal is survived by his loving and committed wife of 46 years, Olga Gallardo Valdez, brother Leopoldo Valdez and family, his devoted, loving children: listed from his youngest joys: Joyce Valdez (Jesse Serna), Dina Valdez-Miller (Jack Miller), Roberto Valdez, Vidal Gallardo; to his strong and rejoicing children, Vidal Valdez Jr. (Maria), Dina Alaniz, Acidalia Schunior (Frank Schunior), Luis Alonzo Valdez (Claudia Valdez), and Sara Argais (Juan Argais). He will be joyfully remembered and represented in life for generations upon generations through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as various nieces and nephews.

Vidal Valdez, born in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico was raised by his mother in Laredo, Texas. There, he attended Laredo Martin High School until his compassion for others convinced his mother to allow him to enlist into the United States Navy at the age of 16 during the Korean War. Throughout his service, Vidal served, traveled, and collected a love for music, dance, and baseball. After his dedication to country, he worked in the oil field business, if you had the honor of knowing Vidal, you know that he would come up with a says of bringing up his life-long experience to advise ‘what to do’ and ‘what not to do’ with well-timed joke or sly smile just to make you laugh. His youthful exuberance continued throughout the length of his life.

In life, Vidal loved fiercely and unconditionally. This is evident in the legacy he leaves in his children and grandchildren. Although he will be missed, we rest knowing that his joyful, adorably and mischievously clever personally, and love for others will radiate for years to come.
