VELIA DEL CARMEN ADDISON
1938 –2020
Born in Anáhuac, Nuevo León, Mexico, Velia del Carmen, “Carmela,” spent her life as a hardworking, dedicated, faithful and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Carmela will always be remembered for her adventurous spirit that led her to travel the world with her beloved husband of 58 years, Tom, as well as her fondness for spending quiet weekends with her family at their home in Leakey, TX, sitting on the porch watching the waters of the Frio River flow or watching countless hours of Lifetime movies. She will especially be remembered for her many years working with the family business in Laredo and San Antonio, Laredo Paint and Decorating/Alamo Paint and Decorating, where she had dedicated her time for almost 50 years.
Carmela passed away in peace on June 23, 2020, after a short illness, surrounded by her devoted husband Tom and four loving children: Thomas P. Addison, Dianne E. Ramirez (Ricardo), Denise M. Elizondo (Enrique) and John C. Addison (Judith I.).
This gentle, loving, caring and wonderful woman has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed by everyone who knew her.
Family was the pivotal essence of Carmela’s life. She was proud and honored to be the matriarch, mother and grandmother to our family and has been a major presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren. We all called her Mom.
Carmela was a proud grandmother to Christina Ramirez-Rosales (Jerome), Denise Elizondo, Enrique Elizondo and Jacqueline F. Addison.
She was predeceased by her parents: Raul and Esperanza Flores, her grandson Ricardo A. Ramirez, brothers Raul, Felipe, Jorge and Tomas Flores, brothers-in-law Steve Addison and Alfonso Gonzalez and sisters-in-law, Anita Knapp and Paula Addison.
Also surviving her are her loving twin sister Delia Magdalena Gonzalez (Alfonso†), brothers, Rolando Antonio, Eduardo (Yolanda), Fernando (Margarita), brother-in-law, Emmett L. Addison (Paula†) and sisters-in-law Cristina (Raul†) Flores, MaEthel (Felipe†) Flores, Barbara Johnson and Anne (Steve†) Addison.
She will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Our family would like to thank all the health care professionals from Methodist Hospital for their great care in the last couple of months of her life and are sincerely grateful to Transcend Hospice of San Antonio, as well as her granddaughter Christina, our newest nurse in the family who provided us with the proper resources and tools to comfort and care for her in her last days in the comfort of her home.
Carmela will be forever remembered for her beautiful smile, gentle eyes, caring heart, loving embrace, zest for life and unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate her life and find comfort that she is in heaven watching over us.
