It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share that Tinskua A. Pérez began his journey to the spirit world on September 30, 2026, at the age of 43, following a long illness that he faced with strength and courage. He was a cherished son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin, and loyal friend.
The oldest of six, Tinskua was born in Arizona and lived with his family on Indian reservations in Southern California and Northern Arizona before moving to Laredo, Texas. Son of a ceremonial chief, Tinskua participated in the Native American ways from an early age, traveling with his family to dances, celebrations, and ceremonies throughout Arizona, California, and South Dakota. He was a sundancer in the Lakota spiritual tradition and participated in the yearly sacred Sundance at Crowdog’s Paradise in South Dakota. He loved travelling and enjoyed trips to Spain and Switzerland to visit his maternal relatives.
Tinskua was a curious and dedicated student with an extraordinary mind. He started elementary school on the Navajo Indian Reservation and transferred to LISD schools when the family moved to Laredo. He was exceptionally bright and gifted, a math genius, who excelled in every subject, graduating in the top 1% of his class at J. W. Nixon High School. He was also a talented musician. A member of the award-winning J. W. Nixon High School Band, he played tuba during marching season and string bass in the Symphonic Band, the All-District Band, and the All-Region Symphonic Band. A blessed writer, Tinskua served as Editor-in-Chief of The Pony Express, the high school’s newspaper. He attended Laredo College, TAMIU, and Dartmouth College.
He was a caring big brother who was very protective of his younger siblings, especially after the loss of their father. While still in high school, Tinskua worked part-time to help his widowed mother make ends meet. He loved his mom and was often her travel companion and confidant. He spent several years working in the hospitality and service industry but found professional stability in the Human Resources office of a railroad car inspection company. He belonged to a large group of friends who enjoyed get-togethers, strategy games, role-playing games, videogames, and larping.
Tinskua was a voracious reader with an eclectic taste. He moved effortlessly from classic world literature and contemporary fiction to mythological fantasy, science-fiction, Japanese manga and Chinese fiction. His love of books reflected his boundless intellectual curiosity. He had a knack for creating and retelling stories, marking arguments, and devising strategies. He was known for his quick wit, playful sense of humor, and infectious laugh. He was kind and generous to a fault, a good human being who made everyone’s life better for being in it.
He was preceded in death by his father Chief Reymundo “Tigre” Pérez, his uncles Guillermo Pérez, Pedro Pérez, Chief Luciano Pérez, Jesús Pérez, and Arturo Navarro; his grandparents Félix and Luz María Pérez, and José Orellano.
He is survived and deeply missed by his loving mother Dr. Lola Orellano Norris and stepfather Dr. James A. Norris; brother Tekuani Pérez, sister-in-law Jackie Longoria with niece Tsiriki and nephew Jiuatsi; brothers Tsapki Pérez and Quanah Pérez; sister Eráani Pérez, brother-in-law Martín González with niece Eréndira; and sister Ashuni Pérez. He is also survived by his grandmother, uncles and aunts: Vicenta Fernández Soriano; Dr. José Orellano and Madlen Orellano-Bachmann; Dr. Christian Orellano and Sarah Orellano-Caldwell; Ruth Pérez; Lupita Navarro; Cheryl Pérez; Blaine and Margaret Norris; and William and Carrie Norris. Cousins: Lucas Orellano and Nadine Brügger; Dr. Simon Orellano and Maria Regli; Claudio Orellano; Eliza Orellano; James Pérez; Joel Pérez; Valerie and Patrick Montana; Vanessa Navarro; Victoria Navarro; Artie Navarro; Luc Pérez; Rachel Pérez; Elizabeth and James Kovel; Sarah Norris; Andrew and Sarah Reese; Amy Hancock; Kirsten Brown and Megan Norris; Ryan and Lauren Wright.
His extended family, many loyal friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known and loved him will forever remember his kindness, brilliant mind, quiet strength in the face of adversity, unwavering dedication to those he loved, and that unique personality that left an indelible mark on our lives.
