October 16, 1956 — May 18, 2026

Laredo, Texas

I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.

Timothy 4:7

We celebrate the life of our beloved Sylvia Everett, who went to be with the Lord on May 18, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on October 16, 1956, in Laredo, Texas, she was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, and friend.

She is reunited in heaven with her parents, Oscar Everett, Dolores Negrete, and Mario Negrete; her husband, David Herron; her siblings, Oscar Everett Jr. and Diana Villalobos; and her nephews, Mario Fernandez and Jacob Martinez.

She is survived by her pride and joy, her daughter, Cindy Salinas, and her husband, Alonzo E. Salinas; her aunt/Mom, Aminta (Tito) Tijerina; her sister, Sandra (Homero) Alvarez del Castillo, Jr.; and Cynthia Fernandez; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and co-workers. She is also survived by her special nephew, Francisco “Panchito” Villalobos, whom she considered her son.

Sylvia began working at a very young age, participating in the Manpower Summer Program for teens. She was assigned to the Municipal Court and later became a permanent employee for many years. She worked as the Activity Director at Retama Manor, where she thrived and excelled in providing uplifting, hands-on, and lively activities for elderly patients and their families. She went on to work at Border Region for many years and at Life Choices before retiring. She returned to work and was instrumental in founding Forever Growing Institute, where she served as its Regional Director until the time of her passing.

She was always passionate about serving others and meeting their needs. She especially loved working with young adults with disabilities and enjoyed showcasing their talents. She and her students recently participated in the Webb County March proclamation of Disability Awareness Month, where several young adults shared their talents. Her undying dedication and selfless commitment were evident in everything she did to provide continuing education and activities for persons with disabilities. She strongly advocated for the understanding, inclusion, and equal opportunities of individuals with disabilities.

Sylvia was a free spirit—strong, independent, and full of life. She brightened every room with her beauty, humor, jokes, pranks, and playful tonterías, always making others laugh. She truly was the life of the party. She loved shopping, especially with her daughter, Cindy.

Sylvia was a light in the lives of everyone who knew her. She lived with love, compassion, service, and a deep faith in God that guided her through life’s challenges. Her passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be remembered for the joy she brought and the lasting impact she made on all who knew her.

In honoring her wishes, no services will be held. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

The family extends their gratitude to Dr. Oscar Benavides and his staff for always accommodating her and tending to her medical needs. We also thank Dr. Macko, Dr. Carlos Cigarroa, and the Laredo Medical Center ER staff for all their efforts and for the thoughtfulness extended to the family.
