SUSANA ALICIA HABIB DE MELÉNDEZ

December 12, 1949 – July 22, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Susana Alicia Habib-Melendez, a beloved mother, devoted wife, friend and esteemed volunteer leader in her community. Born on December,12, 1949, in Nueva Rosita Coahuila, Mexico. Susana had this magnetic energy that drew people in. Her laugh could light up a room — and when she really laughed, it was contagious. She was the life of every gathering — the first to put on music, start a dance party, or belt out a song (even if she didn’t know all the words). She graced this world with her vibrant personality for 75 years. She departed this life peacefully in Laredo, Texas, where she had resided since the 1970s.

Susana was a proud community leader, where she volunteered her time in political campaigns, civic organizations and devoted school-parent volunteer. She had a deep love for Las Vegas — a place she visited often, from her youth through her very last trip on her last birthday. She adored playing her favorite “maquinita”.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and resilience that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Miguel and Eusebia Habib and siblings Maria, Marta, Raquel, Jose, Juan and Jorge.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 55 years of marriage Porfirio Hector Melendez; her daughters and sons, Susana (Pablo) Valencia, Sara A. Melendez, Ramon H. (Stephanie) Melendez, Jose R. (Sara) Melendez, Robert D. Melendez. Grandchildren, Sebastian Valencia, Rolando De Los Santos III, Rock R. De Los Santos, Elle E. De Los Santos, Carolina Melendez, Joaquin Melendez, Isabella Melendez; her siblings Sara, Farah and Miguel.

The family will be receiving condolences on Friday evening, August 8, 2025 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m. 

Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday morning, August 9, 2025, departing at 10:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
