SARA OLGA SALINAS
April 9, 1928 – July 3, 2022
Sara Olga Salinas, at the age of 94, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, in her home in Laredo, Texas, surrounded by her loving husband of 70 years and family. Sara knew she was loved.
Sara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Each of her children and grandchildren always felt as though they were her favorite. She always found a way to connect and celebrate their individual interests. She was a great listener and always gave the best advice. Sara will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Sara started her teaching career at Central Elementary as a 1st grade teacher, where she found her voice as an advocate for children’s literacy. She retired after 35 years of service at LISD, where she made an impact working with teachers as the Director of the Chapter I Right to Read Program.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jose Casimiro Salazar and Sara Ochoa Salazar; her brothers and sisters Jose C. Salazar, Jr., Jorge Salazar, Raul Salazar, Carmen Botello, Eloisa Salazar, Roberto Salazar, Bertha Montemayor, Felipe Salazar, Antonio Salazar, and her beloved grandson Brandon Salinas.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Cesar Jose Salinas, Sr. and their children, Laura (Peter) Gonzales, Cesar (Laura) Salinas, Jr., Sarita (Joe Sandoval) Salinas, Jose “Pepe” (Tracy) Salinas and Melissa (David) Shinn; grandchildren Elizabeth (Daniel) Garza, Robert Gonzales, Peter (Mabel) Gonzales, Jr., Christopher (Ticole) Gonzales, Ricky Salinas, Eliot (Ellen) Jennings, Cordero Jennings, Travis Salinas, Amanda Shinn, Meagan Shinn, and Richard Shinn; great-grandchildren Daniel, Sophia, Lily, Nina, Olivia and Bradley Oliver.
The family will be receiving condolences on Thursday morning, July7, 2022 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 8:30 a.m.
Funeral Services will follow, departing at 10:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: David and Richard Shinn, Peter Jr., and Robert Gonzales, Ricky Salinas, Daniel Garza, Travis Salinas and Cordero Jennings.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Cesar Jose Salinas Sr., Cesar Salinas, Jr., Jose “Pepe” Salinas, Peter Gonzales and Joe Sandoval.
