Ricardo M. Flores-Santos

Ricardo Marcelo Flores-Santos was called home by Our Lord on June 30, 2026, surrounded by his family at his home at the age of 89. He was a beloved husband, father, businessman, and lifelong golfer who lived a full life with joy, purpose, and a deep sense of fulfillment. Born on January 16, 1937, in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico, Ricardo dedicated his life to his family, his career, the game of golf, and creating and preserving many cherished lifetime friendships. From childhood, his parents affectionately called him "Chiquis," a name that would follow him for the rest of his life.

Ricardo's educational journey began at the Rosita American School, where he completed the eighth grade in 1952, became a Boy Scout, and proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He continued his studies at St. Joseph's Academy in Laredo, Texas, graduating in 1955. He furthered his education at the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey and went on to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in 1963 at St. Mary’s University. While there, he was an active member of the Kappa Pi Sigma Business Fraternity, worked as an intern at the Peat Marwick accounting firm, and also worked for H-E-B as a cashier.

In 1967, Ricardo married his beloved wife, Cordelia Casso Farias of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Together, they established a loving family of five children and nine grandchildren. Ricardo was a man of incredible energy and dynamic entrepreneurial abilities. He was the founder and manager of Ferreteria Rio Bravo Hardware Store in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, which he later expanded into the lumber business. His first job after graduation from St. Mary’s was as the first manager of A.C. Nielsen Co. in Nuevo Laredo. He later moved his family to Saltillo in the early seventies to work as the manager of the Carta Blanca Beer Distribution Agency. In the eighties, he relocated to Laredo, Texas, continuing his business career as the manager of Industrias de América, one of the first industrial parks in Nuevo Laredo, and later joined the management team of the transportation company TUNSA of Nuevo Laredo.

Ricardo was always there to help family and friends with his handy Boy Scout skills. As an avid golfer, he participated in numerous tournaments across both Mexico and the United States. He also acquired his pilot’s license and enjoyed owning and flying his own plane as a hobby for a period of time. Throughout his life, he presided served on the boards or was a member of various business and service organizations, including CANACINTRA of Nuevo Laredo, the Lion’s Club of Saltillo, the Cámara de Comercio of Piedras Negras, and was a founding member of the Laredo Under Seven Flags Rotary Club. He was also a faithful member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

He was deeply involved in his children’s school and sporting activities, and he took great pride as a supportive dad in the Texas A&M Parents’ Club. His personality was marked by his quick humor and a natural gift for sharing interesting anecdotes from every stage of his life. He liked to entertain his children and grandchildren by teaching them Spanish tongue twisters, mathematical riddles, poems, and sayings that he had learned from his own grandfather, who was renowned for his wit among friends and customers at his grocery store, ”Las Quince Letras,” in Nuevo Laredo.

After retiring from golf a few years ago, he thoroughly enjoyed being a member of two groups of retired business and professional friends who regularly met for morning coffee, as well as the Wednesday luncheon group at Toño’s. His extensive experience in the hardware business made him a wonderful handyman and a trusted home- improvement advisor to his children and sons-in-law. "Chiquis" spent countless hours taking his grandchildren to swimming lessons, supporting their sports activities, and supervising a playhouse construction. In recent years, he could regularly be found sitting proudly in the stands, cheering at swim and dive meets, middle school volleyball games, and basketball and cheer competitions. He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory and the beautiful values he imparted.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon Jose Flores Gonzalez and Herminia Santos-Flores; his siblings, Ramón Jose Flores, Maya Flores-Lopez, Mauricio Flores, and Francisco Flores; and his devoted aunt in Nuevo Laredo, Miss Ernestina (Tina) Flores.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 59 years of marriage, Cordelia Casso Flores; his children, Ricardo Marcelo Flores-Casso, Gabriela Susana (Jorge) Flores-Gutierrez, Eduardo Alfonso (Fabiola) Flores, Cordy (Alan) Jackson Jr., and Oscar Ignacio Flores-Casso; and his grandchildren, Marcela Isabel Flores, Vanessa Flores, Camila Pequeño, Jorgito and Susana Gutierrez, Eduardo Alfonso and Sofia Flores-Cabeza, and Alan and Katherine (Katie) Jackson. He is also survived by his siblings, Jorge Flores and Alejandra Flores-Garcia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and other loving relatives and friends.

The family will be receiving condolences on Sunday evening, July 5, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Rd., where a Rosary will commence at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday morning, July 6, 2026, departing at 10:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to St. Patrick Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Monsignor James Harris presiding. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Laredo City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ricardo Marcelo Flores-Casso, Eduardo Alfonso Flores-Casso, Oscar Ignacio Flores-Casso, Alan Jackson Jr., Jorge Gutierrez, Alan Jackson III, and Eduardo Flores-Cabeza.
