Ricardo De Leon, Jr.

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Ricardo "Riche" De Leon, Jr., who departed this life on August twenty-fifth at the age of eighty-five. Ricardo died peacefully in San Antonio after a brief illness.

He was born in Laredo to Consuelo Hinojosa De Leon and Ricardo De Leon Sr. and attended San Agustin School from grades one through twelve. He was co-captain of the varsity basketball team and remained close to many of his classmates throughout his life. After high school, Riche joined the army and was stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. Once he was honorably discharged, Riche returned to Laredo and got a job at Hachar department store downtown, where he worked in the office. It was there that he met the love of his life, Norma. After they were married, Riche worked briefly for LISD, then he worked for Webb County. He started at the tax assessor's office and then moved through various departments, including the one that served the colonias. He was all about service to those in need and lived by the golden rule: Treat others just as you would want them to treat you.

He was a devoted son, a faithful husband, and a loving father. He will be profoundly missed. Riche was preceded in death by his beloved mother and father, as well as his uncle and aunt, who helped raise him, Cesario Cardenas and Lucinda Hinojosa.

He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years of marriage, Norma De Leon, and his son, Ricardo De Leon III, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.

The family will be receiving condolences on Saturday morning, August 29, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Rd., where a Rosary will commence at 9:30 a.m. The funeral procession will be departing at 10:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to St. Patrick Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m.

A Private Burial will be held by the family.

Military Honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Laredo Veterans Honor Guard.
