Raul C. Salazar, 77, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Sunday, September 11, 2022. He passed peacefully with his beloved wife and family by his side.
Raul Salazar was born on July 31, 1945 in Laredo, Texas to parents Agapito and Francisca Salazar. He graduated from R.T. Martin High School in 1964 and in 1967 he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 22. During the Vietnam War, he was a “Tin Can Sailor” aboard the destroyer USS Perkins where he honorably served as Quartermaster. During his service he earned several medals, some of which included the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, and the Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (1960). Shortly after his end of active service, he returned to Laredo where he married the love of his life, MaryLou Perez Gutierrez. Together they enjoyed 46 beautiful years abundantly filled with endless love, laughter, and together they danced countless nights away. Raul Salazar was a loving, supportive, encouraging, and protective father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and friend. Everyone who knew him, knew they could always count on him for anything.
Additionally, Raul Salazar served the City of Laredo as a police officer for 6 years and later joined the Webb County Purchasing Department as an assistant Purchasing Agent where he retired in 2016.
He was preceded in death by his parents Agapito and Francisca Salazar, his sisters Angela (Lucio) Saldivar and San Juanita (Juan) Lerma.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Mary Lou Salazar, his daughter, Esmeralda S. Vasquez, son, Raul Adrian (Jeanie) Salazar, daughter, Krystal L. (Ernesto) Alvarado, daughter, Shanty M. Garza, and son, Daniel Colina, sisters, MaryLou (Carlos) Trevino and Teresa Salazar, brothers Ramiro and Jose Luis Salazar, grandchildren: Jake Vasquez, Adriana Salazar, Raul Adrian Salazar Jr., Aaron Salazar, Ernesto F. Alvarado III, Roberto L. Alvarado, Jayden I. Palomera, Johana E. Colina, Edson Colina and numerous relatives who will cherish his memory forever.
The family will be receiving condolences on Thursday evening, September 15, 2022 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 6:30 p.m.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday morning, September 16, 2022 departing at 11:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Laredo City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Raul Adrian Salazar, Ernesto F. Alvarado Jr., Raul Adrian Salazar Jr., Daniel Colina, Marco Dovalina, Mauricio Torres, Ricardo Cardenas, and Raymundo Nunez.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jake Vasquez, Aaron Salazar, Ernesto F. Alvarado III, and Roberto L. Alvarado.
The family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to: Jerry Villarreal, RN with Altus Hospice, Dr. N. Barbara attending physician at LMC, MaryLou Trevino and Teresa Salazar.
