Raul Cardenas
November 12, 1933– June 7, 2025
Raul Cardenas, 91, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
Raul, born in Taft, Texas, was a lifelong resident of Mirando City, Texas where he lived with extended family; upon graduating from high school Raul joined the Navy in service to his country. He met and married Herlinda Garza shortly after his return from his military service and worked as a bookkeeper and accountant for M & S Machine and Supply Company and Los Ojuelos Water Company in Mirando City for over 60 years. He gave service to his community and church where he would often spend hours landscaping the church grounds and serving as a eucharistic minister. He loved all sports (participated in football and baseball in high school) and was a very active and proud member of the Texas A & I booster club attending all football games in Kingsville, Texas. His love for his three girls and wife was priority to him; he often sacrificed his own needs for that of his “girls” giving them unconditional love and attention. Another one of Raul’s greatest joys was being a grandfather. He and his grandson Luke had a special bond that made their love for each other inseparable. He also loved nature and stayed fit by taking early morning walks along the highway. His walks also included cleaning up trash along the highways and collecting aluminum cans for recycling. Raul never met a stranger. He was a quiet loving man who found a friend in everyone he met. His love, generosity, and passion for life will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his parents Aniceto and Elvira Cardenas; siblings, Mirta Cardenas, Carlos Cardenas and Ernestina Ortega.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, of 64 years, Herlinda Cardenas; daughters, Patricia (Norberto) Cardenas Adame, Priscilla Cardenas, and Palmira (Eric) Cardenas Haner; grandson, Luke Eric Haner; siblings, Elvira Banda and Martin Cardenas as well as numerous, other relatives, and friends.
