Oscar R. Noriega

On August 1st, we said goodbye to a very special man — our beloved Uncle Oscar, who peacefully entered eternal life in the presence of his immediate family. He was born and raised in Laredo, Texas, to Ramon and Manuela Noriega, and passed away at 86 years of age.

He was a hardworking, responsible man who dedicated many years of his life to the Texas Mexican Railway as a brakeman and later a conductor, beginning in 1970. He was known for his commitment and punctuality. If he was expected to be at work at 8:00 a.m., he would arrive by 7:00 a.m. Being responsible and well-prepared was simply part of who he was.

He liked to plan his day early. At sunrise, he would often stop by the homes of family members, bringing sweet bread to share. Those thoughtful gestures showed the kindness and love he had for everyone around him. He always enjoyed helping his community and serving his Catholic church. He was a wonderful provider for his family and a man who led by example.

One of the things he treasured most was having breakfast with his beloved wife, surrounded by family and nieces and nephews. He also looked forward to Sundays, when he loved cooking and watching his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. Autumn was his favorite season. He always looked forward to enjoying the delicious Thanksgiving turkey lovingly prepared by his dear Margie, whom he adored and cherished.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Margarita P. Noriega; his parents, Ramon Noriega and Manuela Rodriguez Noriega; and his siblings, Luis Noriega, Graciela (Jose†) Garza, Edna Noriega, and sisters and brothers-in-law, Lilia (Ramon) Peña, Roberto Paredes, Jose Mario Sanchez, and Hortencia (Pedro) Cardenas.

Left to cherish his memory are his sisters-in-law, Guadalupe (Mario†) Sanchez and Guadalupe (Roberto†) Paredes; his nieces and nephews, Joe Roel Garza Jr., Rita (Jorge) Cabello, Veronica (Victor) Castillo, Elma (Peter) Martinez, Luis Noriega Jr., Jose Martin (Martha Judith) Cardenas, Ana Laura (Eduardo) Juarez, Alberto (Lydia) Cardenas, Javier (Cindy) Cardenas; his grand-nieces and grand-nephews, Joe Michael (Sally) Garza, Richard (Cristina) Garza, Corina (Joe) Grace, Victoria (Ty) Creel, Gabriela Castillo, Victor A. Castillo, Clarisa (Michael) Bossaller, Cristina G. Cabello, Diego M. Cabello, and Elizabeth Grace Martinez; and his great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews, Minerva Garza, Castian Creel, Roy Creel, and Paloma Lily Bossaller.

Today, we are grateful for the memories he gave us and the example he set through his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. His legacy will continue to live on in our hearts.

Rest in peace, Uncle Oscar. You will always be remembered with love and deeply missed.

The family will be receiving condolences on Friday evening, August 7, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels, 1410 Jacaman Rd., where a Rosary will commence at 7:15 p.m.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday morning, August 8, 2026, departing at 8:45 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to Holy Family Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
