Norma Contreras, beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend, entered into eternal rest surrounded by the deep love of her family, with her devoted sister by her side. Born and raised in Laredo, Texas, Norma was unforgettable from the moment you met her. Standing nearly six feet tall—strikingly beautiful, with long black hair in her youth—she brought a light into every room that people never forgot.
Norma lived a life full of joy, generosity and connection. She had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel welcomed and loved. Her career as a bilingual executive secretary took her to Puerto Rico, Florida and Oklahoma before ultimately returning to Texas, where she worked in the legal department of USAA in San Antonio. Along the way, she made lifelong friends. Her nieces and nephews were her heart—she loved them as if they were her own children, and they adored her just as fiercely.
She leaves behind a legacy of “live, laugh, and love,” her guiding motto in life. Norma’s big, unforgettable smile, her booming laugh, her joyful and loud “Mexican Gritos” and her warm, enveloping hugs will be deeply and achingly missed by all who were blessed to be part of her life.
May perpetual light shine upon her, and may her beautiful spirit rest in God’s eternal peace.
Norma is preceded in death by her father, Eusebio (“Chevo”) Contreras; her mother, Isabel (Gutierrez) Contreras; and her brother, Eusebio (“Chevo”) Contreras II.
She is survived by her loving siblings: George Contreras, Irma (Contreras) Gaffney, Guadalupe Contreras, and Tonni (Contreras) Johnson.
She is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews: Kelly (Contreras) Harris, Eusebio (“Chevo”) Contreras III, Patsy Contreras, Cordelia (Contreras) Wright, Laura (Contreras) Rowe, Mark Gaffney, Sara (Gaffney) Mahoney, Scot Gaffney, Rebecca Riggs, Tanya Kaplow, Christina (Contreras) Bradley, Brian Contreras, and Melissa Stapler; as well as 20 great-nieces and nephews.
