MERCEDES G. SANTOS

Mercedes G. Santos, 90, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Thursday, October 21, 2021.
Mercedes attended Martin High School and was a majorette. She worked for the main office of the Laredo Independent School District for numerous years until her retirement. She was always so graciously giving, loving, caring, and thoughtful to others. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in passing by her beloved husband, Apolonio B. Santos; and her mother, Maria Cleopatra Gonzalez.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Dr. Apolonio B. Santos, Jr. (Molly Higgins), Sara Alicia Santos, Alfonso E. Santos (Maria Virginia), Roberto Santos (Veronica), and Mercedes Santos Varela (Dr. Humberto J.); grandchildren, Jerome Santos, Joseph Santos, Nicolas Santos, Claire M. Santos, Eduardo A. Santos (Paige), Esteban A. Santos, Daniella A. Santos, and her sister-in-law, Carmen Santos Morales and other relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving condolences on Monday, October 25, 2021 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Prayer Service will be celebrated by Pastor Gilbert Salinas at 11 a.m.
Graveside Services & Interment will follow at the family plot of the Laredo City Cemetery.
**We kindly advise all who wish to attend the service that they ensure proper safeguarding procedures of social distancing and wear a face covering/mask at all times while inside the funeral home. If you are experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19, we ask that you do not enter the building.**
Pallbearers will be: Dr. Humberto J. Varela, Alfonso E. Santos, Sara Alicia Santos, Roberto Santos, Eduardo A. Santos, Esteban A. Santos, and Jose Alvarado.
The family would like to thank their most heartfelt gratitude to: Dr. Humberto J. Varela, Dr. Manuel Gonzalez, Dr. Marissa Gonzalez, Dr. Ricardo Cigarroa, and her caregivers, Rosalinda Gonzalez, Zulema Roque, Sylvia Carrillo, and Mari Garcia Gutierrez for all of the excellent care and attention they provided for our mother. We would also like to thank Doctors Hospital Wound Care, Family and Friends Home Health, Uni Ed Med Care Ambulance, Star Ambulance Service and Jesus Rodriguez, LP, NRP.
