Melissa Lerma

May 08, 1968 – August 28, 2022

Melissa Lerma, fondly known as Missy, entered God’s Glorious Light and stood before Him with her beautiful smile on Sunday, August 28, 2022.

She was surrounded by her family and friends, who loved her dearly. Though death means the end of life, we witnessed Missy entering her new life with God, the angels she saw up above, and being embraced by her son, who she yearned for, her beloved father, and her wonderful grandmother. We are confident everyone in Heaven turned around and looked and welcomed her with a song. Missy had that magic about her. She was vibrant and beautiful, and her soul would draw you in. Her laughter was contagious. She made everyone feel unique, meaningful and loved. Her hugs spoke volumes, and if she had a unique name for you, she would say it LOUDLY, and you knew she was excited to see you. Missy was a State and Federal Probation Officer, a Social Service Worker, a High School Teacher, and a Case Manager for the reunification of families. As you can see, each role was in the helping profession. Missy helped and loved fiercely. She did it with the utmost importance and best of her ability. Missy enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Words can't express how profound and abundant her love for her nieces and nephews ran. They were everything to her, and they knew it. How wonderful is it to feel how much you are loved? How wonderful will it continue to be for them to feel her love around them? It's F* awesome, as she would say. Missy loved her friends. She had wonderful friends in every stage and season of her life. They loved her as much as she loved them. She will be remembered in the beauty of the day, a song, a car ride, conversations on dreams and redecorating, sitting by a lake or river, or drinking a beer or a glass of wine. Missy loved her mother, brothers, sisters, and extended family with intensity. She was raised with deeply rooted family values. Family traditions and gatherings were fun, loud, and done in Lerma style. She was happy simply by sitting outside and listening. They all knew when Missy was in the House. There's something special about the love between a mother and a sister for one another. Missy was cared so lovingly, tenderly, and carefully by her mother and sisters. They never left her side. They exhibited poise throughout this season in Missy’s life. They all prayed and Missy believed and donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and ASPCA, which stands for American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Missy was a woman of faith. She had admirable qualities. Missy lived her life with honesty, integrity, and dignity. In everything she did, she did ethically, morally, and righteously. She met every obstacle, opportunity, and blessing with grace.
