Mary Boone Lowry Ervin, 93, passed away April 12, 2026, in Houston. Born in Laredo to Willis Edwards Lowry, MD and Ruby South Lowry, MD, she was a graduate of Martin High School, and after a year at Sullins College transferred to Southern Methodist University. She earned a BA in Art & Elementary Education and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and a Rotunda Beauty nominee. She later acquired a Master's Degree from Texas A&I- Laredo. After teaching first grade for 20 years, she became the Elementary Art teacher on the LISD television channel in Laredo.
A past President of the Society of Martha Washington, Mary Boone and her husband, Kyle, portrayed Martha & George for the 80th Washington’s Birthday Celebration Colonial Ball. She was a 75-year member of the Lucy Meriwether Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, and an active member of Christ Church Episcopal, Laredo, for 34 years. She and her husband liked to spend many weekends hunting and fishing with their children.
After moving to San Antonio, she volunteered as a docent at McNay Art Museum and on numerous committees at Christ Episcopal Church, San Antonio for 25 years. Mary Boone was an avid reader, cookbook collector, gardener and world traveler.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Kyle A. Ervin, Jr., and their children, Tracy Ervin Garofano and Kyle “Kito” Ervin III. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving condolences on Friday morning, April 24, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Chapel Service will commence at 11 a.m.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Laredo City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you consider making a donation to the Ruby Lowry Scholarship Fund at Texas A&M International University or to the McNay Art Museum.
