Luis Francisco Puig, Jr., a prominent eighth generation Laredoan, departed this life on Jan.16, 2010 in El Paso, TX at the age of 80. He was born on the 28th of May, 1929 in Laredo, Texas, to Luis Francisco Puig, Sr. and Maria Dora Flores, and the oldest of four siblings.-Luis graduated from St. Augustine High School and Texas A&I University-Kingsville where he received his degree in the agricultural sciences.

Foremost a cattle rancher, his career began with the Texas Soil and Water Conservation districts before joining the Laredo Independent School District as a Future Farmers of America instructor, purchasing agent and school principal.-He was also active in the Oil and Gas and Real Estate industries and most recently establishing health care facilities in the El Paso area.

In many other ways Luis was committed to serving his community.-His civic involvement included being a candidate for Mayor of Laredo and helping organize political and social groups for migrants, indigents and the socially disenfranchised.-He was equally committed to his Roman Catholic roots and in 1958 and was a founding member of the Cursillos de Cristiandad and active in many other Lay Catholic organizations. He befriended and supported countless Catholic priests, churches, missions and schools.

Luis had a passion for life and enjoyed meeting strangers.-He was counselor, confidant and a friend to many who sought his friendship, especially when they were Friends of Bill W.

Luis often said that his greatest accomplishment in life was to have married his childhood sweetheart, Alicia Cristina Prieto, and to have survived to see all of his six children grow up to become successful adults.

Luis was predeceased in death by the children's cherished mother: Alicia Cristina Prieto Puig; his parents: Luis F. Puig Sr. and Maria Dora Flores Puig; and his sister: Emilia Dora Puig Prieto.

He is survived by his wife: Dr. Norma Davalos Puig; six children: Louis F. Puig III, M.D., Dr. Robert J. Puig, M.D. and his wife Gloria, Dr. Edward G. Puig, M.D. and his wife Martha Kay, Alice Marie Puig, Charles B. Puig and his wife Cynthia and her daughter Monica Zuniga, Thomas A. Puig and his wife Dona; four grandchildren: Steven Louis Puig, Timothy Donald Puig, Kathryn Cristina Puig and Edward Gerard Puig II;-his brother and sister: Adolfo E. Puig and Maria Luisa Puig Prieto as well as many close family friends nieces and nephews.-
