The Honorable Louis Henry Bruni entered into eternal rest on June 27, 2023.

The second youngest child of Fred and Anita Bruni, Louis was born on July 9, 1949. He was a proud descendant of American Revolutionary War Hero Patrick Henry and equally proud of his own family’s dedication to Laredo.

Educated at St. Peter’s Memorial Elementary School, J. W. Nixon High School and the University of Texas at Austin, Louis made it his lifelong vision to better his beloved Laredo. To that end, he entered public service while simultaneously having a successful career as a businessman in the oil and gas industry, serving as President of Bruni Energy.

Louis served with distinction as a member of the Laredo City Council, representing District 2, from 1994-2002.  Among his many accomplishments, Louis was proud of leading the successful campaign to improve the Laredo International Airport by spearheaded efforts to bring quality regional jet service to the area.

After completing two successful terms as City Councilman, Louis was elected to serve as Webb County Judge from 2003 to 2007.  He worked to help improve living conditions for colonia residents and the county as a whole.

Even away from the spotlight, Louis quietly served his community by taking it upon himself to provide water to folks in outlying areas who were most in need and making donations to various churches and charities to help in their efforts to serve the poor, never seeking recognition, but always answering any call to be of service.

Louis is survived by his children, Frederick Martin “Freddie” (Sylvia) Bruni and his daughter Allison Anne Bruni, the mother of his children; Mary Mirtha Bruni; his grandchildren Alessandra F. Bruni, Sofia G. Bruni, Giuliana A. Bruni, and Frederick Martin Bruni, III; his son, Jacob Bruni; his siblings, Alice (Steve) Whitworth, Joanne Bruni Maddox, and Raymond (Olga) Bruni; his nephews and nieces, Robert Maddox, Edward Maddox, Brent Bruni Comiskey, Anne Whitworth Downing, Elizabeth Whitworth Mussoline, Ricky Anthony Bruni, and David Garza Bruni; his assistant and dearest friend, Jesse “Preacher” Rodriguez-Cortez, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Fred M. and Anita G. Bruni; his sister Patti Bruni; his niece Christina Bruni Fondren; his brother Dr. Frederick M. Bruni, Jr; and his brother-in-law, Dr. Robert K. Maddox.
