Juanita Herrera

February 18, 1947 — April 21, 2026

Laredo, Texas

Miss Juanita Herrera, 79, of Laredo, Texas, joined our Lord in His Heavenly Kingdom on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. Juanita was born on February 18, 1947, and was a lifelong resident of Laredo, Texas. She graduated from JW Nixon High School in 1966 and later continued her education at Laredo Junior College, completing her studies in the mid-1980s.

Juanita was a devoted Catholic whose faith served as the cornerstone of her life. She was steadfast in her commitment to prayer, faithfully interceding for her friends and family with a heart full of love. For many years, she proudly served as a Guadalupana and participated actively in the Danza de Matachines, embracing her culture with passion.

During her professional career, Juanita devoted more than 30 years of service to the City of Laredo, where she became known for her strong work ethic to her community. Her legacy of kindness will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Juanita’s life was centered around her family, near and far, always eager to help in any way she could. Her selflessness touched everyone who knew her. She shared an exceptionally close bond with her niece, Mary Lou Herrera. Together, they created countless treasured experiences, from memorable road trips to enchanting cruises to Cozumel, Mexico, and joyful adventures at the casino.

In her later years, her greatest joy were her grandniece and Goddaughter, Mary Lee Santana-Gonzalez, her husband, Frankie Lee Gonzalez, Sr., her great grand-niece: Macie Rae Gonzalez and great-grand nephew: Frankie Lee Gonzalez Jr., who lovingly called her “Nana.” They brought so much love, happiness and comfort in her life, and she cherished every moment they spent together.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Juan and Maria de la luz Herrera; her brothers: Jose Herrera, Juan Herrera Jr., and Esteban Herrera; her sister Guadalupe Herrera; sister-in-law: Adelfa Herrera; brother-in-law: Matias Vasquez; whom she is with now in eternal life.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Maria Socorro Vasquez of San Antonio, sister-in-law, Elvia Herrera of Laredo, beloved niece and caregiver whom she loved as a daughter, Mary Lou Herrera, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, Godchildren, other relatives, and friends.
