Jose Silva Jr., 84, joined our Lord in His heavenly kingdom on Sunday, March 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family by his side.
Jose honorably served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967, USS Canberra, during which he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. His bravery and commitment to his country defined a significant chapter of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Jose Silva and Paula Gonzalez-Silva; brother: Ricardo Silva; sisters: Delia Silva and Hilda Rubio; parents-in-law: Saul Gonzalez and Rafaela Gonzalez, nephew: Samuel Gonzalez Jr. and niece: Marissa Martinez.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 58 years of marriage, Ruth Silva; his cherished children: David (Adela) Silva and Ruth Silva; grandchildren: Samantha Silva, David Silva Jr., Oscar G. Meija Jr., Jose Roberto Silva, and Karina Nicole Meija; siblings: Isabel (Joe) Chateau, Antonio (†Gricelda) Silva, Margarita (Dr. Hector) Cantu, Ana Maria (Carlos) Martinez, Laura (Mel) Quesada, and Diana (Ruben) Mendez; brothers-in-law: Saul (Yolanda) Gonzalez Jr., Samuel (Lali) Gonzalez, and Daniel (Mary) Gonzalez, uncle: Dr. Daniel († Sally) Garcia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family will be receiving condolences on Friday evening, March 6, 2026 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Prayer Service will commence at 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday morning, March 7, 2026, where a Chapel Service will commence at 10 a.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels. Military Honors will follow at 11 a.m.
Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and the Laredo Veterans Honor Guard.
A private cremation will be held at a later date.
