José Roberto "El Profe" Lopez

Jan 26, 1951 — Sep 14, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jose Roberto “El Profe” Lopez, 75, who left this world on September 14, 2026. Born on January 26, 1951, Jose was a devoted father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and cherished friend to many. His life was marked by kindness, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.

He was a caring and quiet man whose love for his family ran deep, even if he did not always show it in words or in the ways others might have expected. Those who knew him best knew that, whenever you needed him, he was always there, no matter the time, the circumstances, or what was asked of him. His presence was a quiet reassurance that you were never alone.

He was blessed with numerous friends throughout his life and was known for the genuine connections he made with those around him. A true ranchman at heart, he took great pride in caring for his animals and enjoyed the simple, meaningful life that came with being on the ranch. He was especially passionate about his roosters, which brought him great joy and became a special part of his life.

He dedicated 27 years of his life to serving as a teacher with the Laredo Independent School District, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service to his students and community.

He will forever remain in the hearts and prayers of his family and friends. Though his absence will be deeply felt, the love, memories, and moments shared with him will remain cherished forever. He will be dearly missed, deeply loved, and never forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gregorio Lopez and Maria Rodriguez, and his beloved son, David Gregorio Lopez.

Left to cherish his memory are the mother of his children, Helen M. Lopez; his children, Roberto E. (Maricela) Lopez and Oscar D. (Vickie) Lopez; his grandchildren, Marcos Ortiz, Monica Ortiz, Hector Ortegon, Victoria Lopez, Oscar Lopez Jr., and Mersedes Lopez; and his great-grandchildren, Maribel Ortiz, Marissa Ortiz, Hailey Ortegon, and Haidee Ortegon; his siblings, Gregorio (Maria) Lopez Jr., Estela (Fernando) Nava, and Maricela Garcia, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many cherished friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
