It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hortencia M. Rios, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed from this world on October 9, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on February 1, 1950, Hortencia dedicated her life to her family and her faith, embodying the qualities of love, devotion, and unwavering support.
Hortencia cherished her role as a family matriarch, believing in the importance of unity and connection. She maintained strong bonds with her family, reaching out to them daily, which reflected her generous spirit and loving nature. As a proud grandmother, she was a steadfast supporter of her grandchildren, championing their pursuits and celebrating their achievements with boundless enthusiasm.
In her professional life, Hortencia exhibited remarkable loyalty and dedication during her 47-year tenure at JC Penney, where she retired in 2012. Her committed service is a testament to her work ethic and love for her community. Hortencia also extended her nurturing spirit to the children of Lollipop Learning Center, where she lovingly cared for many.
Hortencia found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including her cherished moments spent playing bingo. Her deep religious faith guided her through life’s challenges and remains a cornerstone of her legacy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pablo Martinez Jr. and Mabel Hinojosa; and her son, Gerardo Rios.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 50 years of marriage, Hector Rios; children, Monica (Javier G.) Reyna, David (Michelle Alvarado) Rios, Michelle L. Rios; grandchildren, Javier Andres Reyna, David Nicolas Rios, Hector Joaquin Reyna, Skylar Olivia Rios, Emma Victoria Reyna, Jacobo Gerardo Reyna, Luka Rodrigo Flores; siblings, Pablo (Emilia) Martinez, Beatriz (Enrique †) Serna, Maria Elena (Hilario) Rodriguez, Maria Magdalena (Jose) Lucio, Maria del Carmen (Rogelio) Cabello. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving condolences on Tuesday evening, October 14, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd., where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday morning, October 15, 2025 departing at 9:00 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: David Rios, David Nicolas Rios, Javier Andres Reyna, Hector Joaquin Reyna, Jacobo Reyna, and Javier Reyna.
