It is with heartfelt sadness to announce that Gus A. Becker Jr.,93, joined our Lord in his heavenly kingdom on Tuesday evening, October 21st, 2025. He passed away at the hospice, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg, NY.
Born on August 5, 1932, in Laredo, Texas, Gus was the son of Gus Alder Becker Sr. and Mildred (Leyendecker). He led a remarkable life dedicated to service, education, and his family. He graduated from Texas A&M as a member of the Corps of Cadets before joining the Air Force as a Captain, served in Vietnam in 1969 attached to the 82nd airborne flying C-130s, and served with honor and distinction for 17 years as a Command Pilot. After leaving the Air Force in 1970, Gus embarked on a second career in education. He attended USC and received his CPA license before becoming a schoolteacher in Laredo, Texas.
After the passing of his late wife, Virginia, in 1996, Gus found love again in 2001 with Beverly, a widow. They married on June 29, 2003, in a lovely ceremony at the Garden at Gran View in Ogdensburg, NY.
Their marriage united two wonderful families as they enjoyed traveling seasonally between Ogdensburg and the beautiful Gulf Coast for the weather.
He was a guiding light, offering unwavering support and unconditional love to his children. He cherished spending time with them and watching them in their various activities. His family will fondly remember his stories and his ability to turn every moment into a teachable lesson or anecdote. He greatly enjoyed connecting with his fellow U.S. military veterans. Gus was also known for his love of books, model airplanes, playing bridge, collecting stamps, genealogy research, and baseball…. First, the Braves, then he included the Yankees.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus Alder Becker Sr. & Mildred (Leyendecker), his first wife, Virginia, two sons-in-law, Christopher "Chris" Daniel Dishaw, and Mark Heckman: two stepdaughters, Debra "Debbie" Lynn Walker, and Kimberly C. Free, along with 2 great-grandchildren, Torrie & Jason Free.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Beverly Becker, and their children, Vanean (Dunny) Green, Allen (Susie) Becker, Leesa Heckman, Rick Becker, and Amy Becker, grandchildren, Leia (Kevin) Taylor, Austin (Sandra) Becker, Joseph (Melissa) Becker, Laura (Matthew) Vaughan, Gina (Matt) Stebly, Katelyn (Justin Permijo) along with his 18 great grandchildren and 1 great- great grandchild. Gus was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets Association. The loss of Gus A. Becker leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his memory will live on through the stories he shared. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love of those who held him dear to their heart.
