GRISELDA GUERRERO
June 6, 1988 – May 12, 2022
Griselda Guerrero, 33, departed this earth on Thursday, May 12, 2022. Griselda, also known as Gris or Gigi, was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, friend, educator, and dog mom.
Griselda was born and raised in Laredo, TX, the daughter of Jose Luis and Maria Rosa Guerrero. She attended United South High School where she graduated from in 2006 then moved to Austin, TX to pursue a higher education. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from The University of Texas at Austin in 2010, and brought her expertise back home where she began her career as a Supplemental Instruction Leader and Adjunct Instructor for Texas A&M International University. She earned a Master of Arts in Spanish from Texas A&M International University in 2015, and took her knowledge to the United Independent School District where she was an English Teacher at United South High School for 5 years. Griselda earned a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in English from Texas A&M International in 2019 then worked briefly for Laredo College as an E-Learning and Instructional Design Specialist.
Griselda was a member of the Pre-AP National Faculty and member of the College Board’s Academic Advisory Council working with teachers across the United States to increase equity in schools and provide all students access to rich educational materials and experiences. Up until her untimely departure, she was employed at Laredo Independent School District at Martin and Cigarroa High Schools as a dual enrollment instructor for English. Her devotion to education and passion for learning will be carried on in every student she taught.
Griselda was an avid traveler and student of the world. Having traveled to New York, Mexico City, London, Barcelona, and Panama, she embraced new cultures and enjoyed trips around the world with her closest friends and colleagues. Griselda was an avid reader, true crime podcast junkie, lover of a fresh manicure, self-proclaimed “life-long learner”, and Hamilton’s biggest fan.
She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents: Pedro and Maria Luisa Guerrero; maternal grandmother: Josefa Rodriguez; and brother-in-law: Arnaldo Elizondo.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her parents: Jose Luis and Maria Rosa Guerrero; sisters: Rosa Elia (†Arnaldo) Elizondo and Miriam Guerrero; niece and nephew: Mauricio and Melany Emiliano; Goddaughter Abigail A. Morales; extended family members: Elva M. Elizondo, Elva Laura Elizondo, and Albar Elizondo, Jr., as well as by numerous friends, and acquaintances.
The family would like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to the following and their families: Leonel Gutierrez, Victor Montes, Stacey Dunivant-Lopez, Jennifer Salazar-Morales, Adriana Sanchez-Palacios, Rosa I. Ramon, and Crystal Wilkins.
A celebration of Griselda’s life will be held on Saturday evening, May 21, 2022 from 5 to 9 P.M. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Road. A special blessing and reading of eulogies will be offered at 6 P.M.
*The family kindly asks that light colored attire be worn as per Griselda’s special request.
