May 5, 1925 – February 5, 2021

Gloria G. Guajardo passed away February 5, 2021. She was a retired educator having served in various capacities with several School Districts for 33 year.

She was preceded in death by parents Leonides and Genoveva Guerra Gonzalez; her husband, Eduardo Guajardo; her son, David E. Guajardo; her brothers, Dr. Luis Leonel Gonzalez, Dr. Hugo R. Gonzalez, and Angel Noe Gonzalez; her sisters, Consuelo G. Hinojosa, Olga G. Smith, and Belinda G. Reece.

She is survived by her daughter, Patsy G. Hartley, and her sister, Elpedia G. Smith.

Wherever she lived, Gloria was active in local educational and social organizations. In Laredo, she belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma, The Luncheon Club, Bridge Club, Cotillion, Star Dusters, Daughters of the Republic of Texas Women’s City Club and the Pan American Round Table. She was on the Board for the Laredo Little Theater. She also enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, and reading. She traveled the world and had fond memories of every trip and its fun and challenges.

Gloria earned B.A. and B.S. degrees with highest honors from Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas and a M.A. from Texas A&I in Kingsville, also with honors. Because of her excellent academic record, she was hosen for membership in Kappa Delta Pi, an international honor society in education and in Alpha Chi, also an honor society.

Following her wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no services. Her remains will be buried at the Gonzalez Family Cemetery, a Texas Historical cemetery in Duval County. She was instrumental in the cemetery’s designation from the state of Texas. Her family had Spanish land grants and later, Mexican land grants before Texas was a state.
