It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Gilberto A. Iruegas, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on February 19, 2026, at the age of 81.
A proud graduate of Martin High School in 1962, Gilberto began his journey into adulthood serving his community early on, working at the La Posada Hotel during his high school years. His commitment to excellence and service was evident in his role as a bank officer at Union National Bank and South Texas National Bank. Later, he found his calling in real estate, where he passionately contributed as an agent for various local companies, constantly striving to help others find their ideal homes.
Gilberto was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Pat Iruegas, whom he married in March of 1971. Together, they shared a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Gilberto then joined the City of Laredo’s Building Department, where he dedicated 23 years of his life as a building inspector, culminating in his retirement as a commercial plans examiner. His attention to detail and commitment to the safety and welfare of the community he loved earned him the respect and admiration of both colleagues and residents alike.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilberto Iruegas and Esperanza Treviño; his siblings, Zulema Rodriguez, Jose Iruegas, Ricardo Iruegas, Gabriel Iruegas, Servando Iruegas, Reymundo Iruegas, Ramon Iruegas, and Yolanda Garza; his sister-in-law, Mary Trujillo; his brothers-in-law, Ramon Rodriguez, Octaviano Rodriguez, and Fred Rodriguez Jr; and his parents-in-law, Alfredo and Heribertha Rodriguez.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 55 years of marriage, Pat Iruegas; his children, Gilberto A. (Michelle H.) Iruegas Jr. and Eduardo Iruegas; his grandchildren, Annalise S. Iruegas, Isela B. Iruegas, Shawn Michael Bryand, and Brianna Eileen Bryand; his siblings, Juan Iruegas, Jesus Iruegas, Elisa Mercado, and Jorge (Mary) Iruegas; his sisters-in-law, Maria Juanita (Rafael III) Lozano, Alma Ramon, and Norma Segovia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many friends.
