ELADIO RENE ZUÑIGA

November 24, 1974 – January 28, 2019

Eladio Rene Zuñiga, 44, was born on November 24th, 1974 and passed on Monday, January 28th, 2019 in the city of his birth, Laredo, Texas. Rene lived most of his life in his beloved hometown.

After graduating from J.W. Nixon High School, Rene attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. He completed his criminal justice degree from Texas A&M International University in Laredo. Truth be told, he was an Aggie at heart.

In continued pursuit of justice, Rene graduated from both the Border Patrol and later, the Department of Public Safety academies, where he worked for several years.

In 2006, Rene met the love of his life, Gabriela Lara. They were married in 2008 and moved back to Laredo. He succeeded one of his many passions by teaching social studies at United South High School.

Although Rene’s degree was in criminal justice, his TRUE love was music. Rene was a self-taught guitarist and keyboard player. He was extremely talented. Rene was not only a musician, but a songwriter and singer. His leading musical influences were The Beatles and Eric Clapton.

Rene is and will always be a part of the many lives he touched. His quick wit, infectious smile, and charismatic personality made all feel welcome. He lived life to the fullest and was always surrounded by friends, family, and song.

We love you Rene. A void will forever remain in our hearts.

“And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make” – The Beatles

He was preceded in death by his father, Eladio Zuñiga.

Zuñiga; and his siblings, Belinda Zuñiga Silva (David Ricardo), Eduardo Homar Zuñiga (Araceli W.), Cynthia Zuñiga-Puig (Charles), and Melissa Zuñiga (Scott Marshall). He is further survived by parents-in-law, Manuel and Josefina Lara, Jr.; his siblings-in-law, Adriana Lara Ortega (Julio), Manuel Lara, III (Cordelia), and Luis G. Lara (Janie); and by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other loved relatives and friends.
