With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ms. Deborah Anne Meleńdez, who departed this world on July 14, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on March 7, 1957, Deborah was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and community member whose impact will be felt for years to come.
A remarkable bright light, Deborah distinguished herself during her high school years as a proud Nixon Golden Spur and had the honor of participating in President Nixon's inauguration in 1972. Her involvement in such significant events reflected not only her dedication but also her deep commitment to her community and country.
Loving big sister with a true free spirit, she was honored to be Juanito’s and Wayo’s Godmother, a role she cherished deeply and now follows her niece, Baby Theresa in death to lovingly watch over her.
Left to cherish her memory are her parents, Arturo and Margaret Meleńdez; siblings, Rourke (Corina) Meleńdez, Greg (Patsy) Meleńdez, Mary Margaret Benavidez, Traci (John) Leonard, and T Robert (Josie) Meleńdez; nieces and nephews, Jonathan (Sophia) Meleńdez, Christopher Meleńdez, Tristan Meleńdez, Lauren Meleńdez, Greg (Yareli) Meleńdez, Shelby (Ben) Meleńdez, C.Y. (Vanora) Benavidez IV, Nicolas (Monica) Benavidez, Eduardo Benavidez, Joshua Benavidez, Catarina Benavidez, John Leonard, Jr., Christa (Frank) Super, and Daniela Meleńdez; numerous great nieces and nephews also survived by other loving relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving condolences on Saturday morning, July 19, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 9:30 a.m.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday morning, July 19, 2025 departing at 10:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.
Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Laredo City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Eduardo Lorenzo Benavidez, C.Y. Benavidez IV, Christopher Meleńdez, John Leonard, Greg Meleńdez, and Michael Dickinson.
Honorary Pallbearers are: Mark Villarreal, Corynn De La Garza, Suzanne Ramirez, and Regina Rossano.
