Daniella M. “Dannie” Carmichael

Daniella M. Carmichael, affectionately known as Dannie to family and friends, was called to join our Heavenly Father on November 14, 2025. She was born in Laredo, TX on October 1, 1964, to JD Carmichael and Rosario Leal Carmichael. Dannie was known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family.

After graduating from Nixon High School in 1983, she completed several years of study at Laredo Community College. She dedicated her life to caring for students with special needs, serving faithfully as a Special Education Teacher’s Aide for the Laredo Independent School District until she retired in 2021. During her many years with LISD, she worked passionately not only in the classroom but also in programs close to her heart, such as the Special Olympics. She advocated tirelessly for her students, raising funds for class jackets, field trips, and enriching activities that supported their growth and dignity.

Although Dannie was not blessed with children of her own, she played an essential role in helping her youngest aunt raise and care for her three children. For them, she was more like an older sister—babysitting them, taking them to theme parks, and showering them with her unconditional love. She will be missed and remembered lovingly by family, friends, colleagues, and the many students whose lives she touched.

Dannie is preceded in death by her parents; her grandfather, Bernardo Leal; her grandmother, Rosario Vizcaya de Leal; her uncle, Manuel Leal; her aunts, Estela Leal Treviño and Bernadette Leal St. Clair; and her youngest cousin, Patrick B. LaFleur.

She is survived by her partner, Javier Flores; and by her many cousins, including: Estela (Ricky) Ybáñez, Gina (Alfredo) Pérez, Jerry Molina, Clarissa (Alfredo) Pérez, Bernardo (Diana) Molina, and Cesar E. (Melissa) Treviño, all of Laredo, TX; Manuel Leal and Arlisa (Mark) Valdez of Beeville, TX; Bernard (Lisa) Leal of San Antonio, TX; Glenn (Luis) Vargas-LaFleur of Midland, GA; Bernie LaFleur of Phenix City, AL; and many more beloved extended family members.

Dannie’s life was a testament to kindness, compassion, and unwavering love. Her legacy lives on in every student she supported, every family member she cared for, and every heart she touched. Though we mourn her absence, we rejoice in the promise that she now rests in God’s eternal peace.

The family will be receiving condolences Tuesday morning, November 25, 2025 from 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 719 Loring at Cortez; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 11 a.m. A chapel service will follow at 11:30 a.m.

Funeral Services will be departing at 12:00 p.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
