Charles "Chuck" N. Fansler III

January 14, 1952 — February 6, 2026

San Antonio, Texas

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that Chuck joined our Lord in his heavenly kingdom on Friday, February 6th, 2026. He passed away at home with his wife by his side at 74 years young.

Chuck was a native Texan, a life-long musician, a supportive father, and a loving husband. Born in Laredo, he attended the University of Texas, UTSA, and St. Mary’s University before settling in San Antonio. In his younger years, he toured Mexico in the 70’s with one of his first original bands and later became the South Texas touring drummer for the country bands Since Amelia and Bobby Baker and the Longnecks.

He loved to laugh, play golf, hunt, cook, and ponder profound prose while telling stories into the wee hours of the morning. Based on the correct answers he could provide while watching Jeopardy, he possessed a significant capacity to retain random information; you were simply not winning a trivia game with him in the room.

In his later years, he was heavily involved with the San Antonio music scene, supporting many local groups as a regular sit-in player, with styles ranging from Rock cover bands to Country and Western swing. He was affectionately known by his local alias, “The Laredo Tornado,” a name given to him by the band ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) after meeting them backstage. Ever since, introduced onstage as “Chuck Fansler, The Laredo Tornado on drums..” and lived to make people dance.

He is survived by his sister, Anita Averill; his loving wife, Veronica Fansler; and his son, Charles N. Fansler IV.

He will be deeply missed, and our time with him will be forever cherished.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday evening, April 10, 2026 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.
