BERTHA GARZA DICKINSON

May 12, 1918 – November 02, 2018

Bertha Garza Dickinson went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 02, 2018 in Laredo, Texas.

Bertha, (affectionately known as “Mama Bertha” or “Lala”) was born on May 12, 1918 in Dolores, Texas to parents Rosalio Garza and Julia Gutierrez Garza; she was the youngest of six children.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Charles Burns Dickinson; her two sons, Charles Burns Dickinson, Jr., and William John Dickinson; as well as her great granddaughter, Dorothy Ann Corona.

Both Bertha and her late husband Charles were faithful members of Blessed Sacrament Church. They were active in the Rio Grande Ramblers Square Dance Club for many years. She managed the Charles B Dickinson CPA firm for 52 years and the William J Dickinson accounting office for 14 years. She was Vice President of the South Texas Outreach Foundation. Those who knew her, know she truly believed in giving rather than receiving; many organizations throughout the state of Texas benefitted from her generosity.

Bertha was a dignified woman who deeply understood the values of faith, family, and tradition. She was a true angel who touched all who knew her. Her favorite activities included: spending time with family, whether at the 3D Ranch or at home, and she was also a life-long Spurs fan. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother who will be missed by not only her family and friends, but the entire Laredo community. As the matriarch of the Dickinson family, her legacy will certainly continue for many generations to come.

Left to cherish her memory are: daughters-in-law, Mary Louise Cantu Dickinson (Charles Jr., deceased) and Gloria Flores Dickinson (Billy, deceased); and grandchildren, Charles B. Dickinson, III, Katherine Corona (Joseph), Joseph Dickinson (Laura), Michael Dickinson (Esther), William John Dickinson, Jr. (Mary), Karen Hunter (Chris), Jennifer Whitfill (Patrick), and Alexa Kuehn (Kris). Also surviving her are: fourteen great-children, Cristal, Charles IV, Zachary, Mary Ann, Michael Jr., Maxine, Matthew, Marshall, John, Antonio, Brian, Amanda, Nathaniel, and Sophie; four great-great-grandchildren, Mireya, Midori, Madelyn, and Kyle; as well as numerous members of the extended family.

The family will be receiving condolences on Wednesday evening, November 07, 2018 from 5 to 6 p.m. for family; and 6 to 9 p.m. for public visitation at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday morning, November 08, 2018. Procession will depart at 9:30 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Bertha will be held at 10 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
