Aurora C. Miranda, 90, passed away in her sleep on August 7, 2026. Aurora was born in Laredo, Texas to Aurora and Carlos Cantu on January 17, 1936. She was raised in the Azteca neighborhood and graduated from St. Augustine in 1953. She continued her education at the University of Texas at Austin, earning her Bachelor of Science in Education, and spent her teaching career with the Laredo Independent School District at Milton Elementary School for over 20 years.

She married the love of her life, Jose P. Miranda (Pepe), Sr., in 1957. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with three children, Dr. Jose P. (Lezlie) Miranda, Jr., Diana A. (Ezequiel) Rodriguez, and Marisa E. (Fernando) Ortega.

Aurora enjoyed traveling with Pepe to Mexico, Europe, Panama, Hawaii, Alaska, and throughout the United States. Her pastimes included solving crossword puzzles and playing numerous games with her friends, including Bunco and Po-Ke-No. She was an avid UT Longhorns, San Antonio Spurs, and Dallas Cowboys sports enthusiast. Aurora was a Life Member of the Texas Exes.

Today, we are grateful for the memories she gave us and the example she set through her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family. Her love will continue to live in our hearts.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jose (Pepe) Mirada, Sr.; her parents, Carlos Cantu and Aurora Cerda; her sister, Juventina (William) Longmire; and her sisters and brothers-in-law.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Jose P. (Lezlie) Miranda Jr., Diana A. (Ezequiel) Rodriguez, Marisa E. (Fernando) Ortega; her ten grandchildren, Jose P. (Cristian Rosas) Miranda, III, Agustin C. Miranda, Julian V. Miranda, Melissa Y. Mercado, Cordelia (Sevie) R. Sarabia, Gabriela (JC Santos) Rodriguez, Carlos D. Rodriguez, Celina A. (Gary) Luna, Fernando P. Ortega, and Eduardo N. Ortega; her nine great-grandchildren, Luna and Elio Miranda-Rosas, Isabella and Alyssa Mercado, Viviana and Liliana Sarabia, and Audrina, Madison, and Emma Luna; and a great-great-granddaughter, Sienna Ruiz; as well as numerous family members and friends.

The family will be receiving condolences on Wednesday morning, August 12, 2026, from 8 to 10 a.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 719 Loring at Cortez. Procession will be departing at 10 a.m. from Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels to San Martin De Porres Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Fernando Ortega, Jr., Fernando P. Ortega, Agustin Miranda, Julian Miranda, Jose P. Miranda, III, Gary Luna, Severino Sarabia Jr., and Juan Carlos Santos.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to her loving caregiver of over ten years, Irma Hernandez, and also to Maria Teresa Atilano. The family would also like to give special thanks to Hope Kidney Clinic and Dr. Ricardo Cigarroa.
