ANTONIA “TOÑA” FLORES VERA

1925-2020

Antonia “Toña” Flores Vera, age 95, passed away peacefully of natural causes Friday August 14th in Austin, Texas.

Toña was born April 20, 1925 in Arteaga, Mexico. The youngest of ten children, her passions included gardening, cooking delicious food for her family, and helping care for many of her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Vera, Sr., along with 9 siblings, and daughter-in-law Christina Vera. Toña is survived by her five children: Jose Vera Jr., Gloria V. Ambrose (Gaspar), Sandra Vera-Summers (Edward), Melissa Masters (Carlos), and Rolando Vera (Kerry). Also surviving Toña are nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.  She will be deeply missed by family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.

The family extends gratitude to Toña’s personal caregiver, Bernarda Barraza, who provided loving comfort and support in her final weeks. Appreciations to Victoria King for her devoted friendship over the years. Many thanks to the Health-Care Professionals of Hospice Austin and Brookdale Medical Center Kingsley for their care and commitment.

The family will receive condolences from 8 am until 10 am, Saturday, August 22nd at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapel. A Chapel Service will commence at 10 a.m. The service may be found live streamed at the link below.

Interment will follow at the family plot in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
