ANGELA M. CASTAÑEDA
December 22, 1922 – October 14, 2018

She is now resting peacefully. Angela M. Castaneda died on Sunday October 14, 2018 at San Juan Nursing Home in San Juan, Texas at the age of 95. A strong, resolute and resilient woman, who together with our father, whom she was married to for 70 years at the time of his death, taught us in turn to be strong, resolute and resilient. She loved us, cared for us, and placed our needs before hers. Her nine children were her joy.

Mother protected us. Her “career” was taking care of her family; she accomplished it successfully. Angela was a dedicated Catholic woman who prayed the rosary daily. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, reading the Reader’s Digest; especially the jokes and condensed novels. She loved celebrating holidays with special meals for her family and it was important to her to have specific menu selections for each occasion. Even as she grew older, she always had a special meal prepared when we came to visit. Everything she cooked was always delicious and prepared with love.

Angela is preceded in death by her husband: Guillermo F. Castañeda; parents: Romulo and Refugia G. Muñoz; sister: Guadalupe Muñoz; granddaughter: Christina Bazaldua.

Left behind to cherish her memories are her children: Sylvia Bazaldua of San Antonio, Texas; Guillermo F. (Adela) Castañeda of McAllen, Texas; Diana C. (Joe T.) Padilla of McAllen, Texas; Ricardo (Graciela) Castañeda of San Antonio, Texas; Patricia (John D.) English of Laguna Vista, Texas; Ray (Cris) Castañeda of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico; Hilda (Joe) Luna of McAllen, Texas; Rebecca Castañeda of McAllen, Texas; Gerardo (Marisela) Castañeda of Laredo, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends.

A special gratitude to the San Juan Nursing Home staff for the last 3 years of care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in our mother’s memory may be made to: San Juan Nursing Home, 300 N. Nebraska Ave; San Juan, TX 78589, a 501 c3 Not for Profit Corporation dedicated to the works of charity and caring for the elderly. (Donation envelopes will be made available during the visitation.
