On August 8, 2025, Amber Milton Yeary II entered his eternal rest and home. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, and mentor. Encompassing all things good, kind and hopeful; devoted to compassion, humility, service and love, Amber cherished his relationship with God, Sharon, his wife of 65 years, family, friends, and his Laredo community. He had a quick wit and shared fun and adventurous stories from growing up in Laredo.
Amber was born in Laredo and grew up downtown close to the railroad tracks. He had a paper route when he was 6 and started helping his dad at Yeary Battery Company. Education in Laredo was varied for Amber as he attended Urbahn Grammar School, Baptist Day School and K. Tarver Elementary. After Christen Junior High School, Amber proudly graduated as a Martin High School Tiger in 1956. Amber graduated from Texas Tech University where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He married his sweetheart, Sharon, in the summer of 1960. Amber served in the U.S. Army beginning in February 1961, was stationed in Chicago but returned to the Laredo Army Reserve Unit until his honorable discharge in 1967. In Laredo, Amber helped operate his family’s business, Yeary Battery Company.
Hunting, fishing and time in the great outdoors were some of his hobbies; the time spent making memories and teaching his hobbies to his own children and friends was cherished by many. One particular joy was having one of his bucks pictured in Big Rack by Robert Rogers.
A servant heart, Amber loved First Baptist Church and the opportunity to lead bible study and participate as a deacon. Local Little League benefitted from his time coaching. Presiding as Rotary president was a highlight for him. Many years spent with Border Olympics, including his year as president, were memories he held dear. His business affiliation with Automotive Wholesalers of Texas (AWOT) offered many years of business opportunities and relationships. He assisted in bringing Communities in Schools to Laredo in the early 1990s. A 24-year tenure on the Laredo ISD School Board, including time as Board President was paramount as it led to his affiliation with the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) where he served as President in 1991-92, and later the National Association of School Boards. The legacy and pride of serving both Laredo ISD and Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) was shared with his father, Harold R. Yeary. Amber and his father remain the only father and son to have served as president of TASB during their respective years of service.
Many local friends and business people maintained their cars at Yeary Battery Company in downtown Laredo through the early 1980s. Upon closing the business, others benefitted from Amber’s skills. Professionally, Amber ended his career with US Customs Brokers Daniel B. Hastings, Inc and BDP/Fernandez-Hinojosa providing invaluable bilingual skills and automotive experience to these businesses.
Amber was preceded in death by his grandparents Amber M. and Ione Yeary, his parents, Harold R. and Cassie Mae Yeary, his son Amber Milton Yeary III, his grandson, Amber Milton Yeary IV, his brother and sister-in-law Harold (Pat) R. Yeary, Jr. and Joyce McBride Yeary, and his nephew Harold (Ford) R. Yeary III. His Mother and Father-in-Law, C.D. and Hazel Snow and his sister-in-law Linda Snow.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 65 years, Sharon Snow Yeary; children, Erin (Ron) Eichorst, daughter-in-law Norma Yeary and Caryn (Randy) Fox; grandchildren, April (Lakota) Tow, Maegan Yeary, Randy Fox, Bailey Yeary, John Eichorst, Shelby Yeary, Violet Eichorst, and Angel Eichorst; great-grandchildren, Reddington Lee Tow and Renleigh Amber Tow; as well as nieces and nephews, Denise (Lee) Jackson, Melissa Campbell, Judge Kevin (Suzie) Yeary, Allison Garcia, Joyce (Patrick) Powell and great and great-great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
