On Thursday, August 13, 2020, Alonzo L. Ramirez Jr, devoted father and husband passed away at the age of 60.  He was known for his kindness and gentle heart.

Alonzo was born on September 23, 1959 in Laredo, Texas to Alonzo and Amelda (Saenz) Ramirez.  Alonzo is the eldest of three children.

He proudly attended Mary Help of Christians School, St. Joseph’s Academy, M.B. Lamar Junior High, and J.W. Nixon High School (Class of ’78).  For his collegiate years, he attended Laredo Junior College and Laredo State University. He began his 39-year banking career at the International Bank of Commerce, having been 21 at the time. He became a highly respected officer at Commerce Bank and on July 2, 2007 went on to continue his career at Falcon Bank where he became Senior Vice President/Lending Officer.

On August 17, 1985 he married the love of his life, Martha Alicia Sepulveda of Eagle Pass, Texas. Together they raised two sons, Alonzo Lauro III and Alejandro Luis as well as their daughter, Gabriella Andrea. Alonzo also had a grandson, Kaleb Diego, whom he loved deeply.

Alonzo was a true family man and a devoted husband. He loved his children and was committed to all of their activities.  He was an avid sports fan and played a meaningful role in his sons’ athletic activities, from practice to attending every baseball and football game. He was dedicated to his daughter’s rodeo competitions and spent many of his days taking her horseback riding.  Alonzo also enjoyed being a grandfather and spending time with his grandson Kaleb. He enjoyed going to the beach with his family and spending the weekends at his beloved ranch getaway where he looked forward to retiring with his loving wife of 35 years.

Alonzo is survived by his wife, Martha Alicia; his sons, Alonzo Lauro III (Alexandra) and Alejandro Luis; his daughter, Gabriella Andrea; his grandson, Kaleb Diego; his parents, Alonzo and Amelda; his brother, David (Lamar); and his sister, Lulu (Judd) Gilpin; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The family will be receiving condolences on Sunday evening, August 23, 2020 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels & Cremation Services, 1410 Jacaman Rd.; where a Vigil for the Deceased and Rosary will commence at 7 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday morning, August 24, 2020 departing at 9 a.m. from Joe Jackson North Funeral Chapels to San Martin de Porres Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the family plot of the Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Alonzo Lauro Ramirez III, Alejandro Luis Ramirez, David Ramirez Jr, Carlos Ramirez, David Ramirez, Brit Gilpin, Judd Gilpin, Guadalupe Saenz III, Roel Villarreal, and Gerardo Villarreal.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Angel Cuellar and Eduardo Zuñiga.
