Alice Bruni Whitworth passed away peacefully at home on December 19, 2025, after a long and courageous battle. She was born on August 31, 1952, in Laredo, Texas, the youngest of six children, to Frederick Martin Bruni and Anita Farias González. Her cousins lovingly nicknamed her “Mouse”—a name that stuck until the very end. She attended Catholic elementary school, graduated from St. Mary’s Hall in San Antonio, and went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin.
At the age of 20, Alice met the love of her life, Steve Whitworth. They were inseparable from the start and went on to raise two daughters and build a full and meaningful life together—one that lasted 51 years and was centered on family, lasting friendships, and a shared love of travel. Steve cared for Alice with extraordinary devotion throughout her illness, never leaving her side—a love story in its truest, most enduring form.
Alice was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She was known for her quick wit, warm sense of humor, and deep loyalty to the people she loved. Family and friends were at the heart of her world, and she took great joy in time spent together. She also appreciated life’s simple pleasures: long drives at The Barrocito Ranch, her sweet dogs, playing Mexican Train with friends, and chatting with her dear friends Magda Foster and Lisa Miller at Polly Adams—also known as “her office.” It always gave those who loved her a chuckle that petite little Alice’s favorite drink was a Coors Light.
Alice is survived by her beloved husband, Steve Whitworth; her sister, Joanne Maddox; her brother, Raymond Bruni; her daughters, Annie Whitworth Downing and Lizzie Whitworth Mussoline; her sons-in-law, Ward Downing and Joe Mussoline; and her six grandchildren—Avery, Freddie, Alice, Michael, Christopher, and Margaret Jeune—who were a constant source of entertainment, pride, and joy. She is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Anita Bruni; her brothers, Frederick and Louis Bruni; and her sister, Mary Patricia Bruni.
Alice will be remembered for her humor, her generosity of spirit, and the enduring love she shared with her family and friends.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers who provided such compassionate support during the final chapter of Alice’s life, in particular Veronica and Joceline.
